We are working on some very exciting plans for 2017 relating to pop up performers at Shrewsbury Folk Festival!
We can’t tell you what’s going on just yet but hope to bring you some news in early 2017.
Pop up performers are young local musicians and bands that we programme across the festival site to give them a chance to reach a new audience. If you’re interested in knowing more, watch this space for updates.
These were our 2016 pop up performers
“A singer-songwriter with the chops of a reggae-soul artist.”
The formidable force that is Beth Prior is again one of our pop-up artists at this year’s festival. Having toured internationally as a solo artist after the release of her EP Nomad, Beth has created waves amongst the emerging music scene and is now moving forward with her crowd funded debut album, Little Acts of Kindness.
Beth and her new six-piece collective embark on a full UK tour to launch the record this September, starting in London and hitting major cities in succession. Be sure not to miss out as this powerhouse of an independent artist unifies her acoustic sound with deep, rock-steady reggae, dub + ska.
Played on 6music and described by ex-editor of NME, Q, Mojo and Word Paul Du Noyer as “cheering and addictive”, Thom Morecroft is a scruffy cherub of a folk-pop singer-songwriter from Shrewsbury, precariously hidden away somewhere along Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter.
Having successfully crowd-funded the release of an EP in January, then followed it up with two more in April and July, Thom will be touring the UK for much of 2016.

From the offspring of The Shropshire Bedlams and the Martha Rhoden’s Tuppeny Dish morris teams, three young musicians rise up to bring contemporary folk music to the masses. From Irish jigs to English morris tunes, Moulin’s upbeat and modern interpretation of traditional dance music is enough to shake the cobwebs out of any folkie.
“Moulin inject a youthful zest into their music, giving it an energetic burst which jumps out from beneath their fingers straight onto your internal dance floor” – Benji Kirkpatrick, (Bellowhead/Faustus)
