Joli Blon, who take their name from a much loved Cajun waltz, play traditional dance music from the swamps of Louisiana.
Their stomping two-steps, mournful waltzes, Cajun French songs and three-part harmonies – with a bit of Blues in the mix -have proved a popular choice with party people and roots music lovers. The authentic up-tempo music has brought audiences on to the dance floor at gigs and events from Louisiana to Limehouse, with recent appearances at the Green Gathering, Boomtown, Red Rooster and Bath Fringe festivals and brief foray into the rock world supporting the Quireboys at the O2 Islington.
At this year’s Shrewsbury Folk Festival, the regular core trio of accordion player Lucy Vines, fiddler Fliss Premru (The Rosinators) and guitarist Miriam Hogan (Flaky Jake) are looking forward to playing in the afternoon on the Village Stage.
They’ll be joined by Cheryl McIlroy (Rough Chowder) on rubboard “froittoir” and Cajun triangle “ti-fer” and Carol Wilson (Accadian Strings, Colin and the Crawfish) on drums for an evening on the Sabrina stage with the fabulous five-piece Joli Blon Big Band.
