A three-time Grammy Award winning blues and roots artist who has collaborated with Sting and shared a stage with Bruce Springsteen will be joining the line-up of this year’s Shrewsbury Folk Festival.
Fantastic Negrito will take to the Severn stage on Sunday August 30th, following the withdrawal of Americana star Lucinda Williams, who announced she was cancelling all her UK and EU shows last month.
The inaugural winner of the NPR Tiny Desk Contest, Fantastic Negrito is renowned for his explosive live shows and his raw, deeply personal blend of blues, rock, soul and funk. He has won three Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Blues Album and performed at some of the world’s top music festivals including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Celtic Connections and WOMAD.
Our stellar line-up already includes the UK premiere of a new show from Scottish stars Talisk and Irish dance world champions, former Riverdance leads and social media sensations, The Gardiner Brothers called Unleashed; Andy Fairweather Low & The Low Riders; Irish singer Cara Dillon and the only festival show from Ferocious Dog featuring The Celtic Folk Orchestra as well as dozens of other folk, Americana and world music acts.
Festival Director Sandra Surtees said: “This is a rare UK festival performance for Fantastic Negrito and an exciting addition to this year’s programme. He is known for his fearless originality and deeply personal songwriting as well as electrifying live performances so we can’t wait for our audience to see him live.
“There’s undoubtedly an eclectic line-up of folk, roots, Americana, world music and blues with the chance for people to see to their favourite artists but also discover music that is new to them, one of the things we are known for at the festival.”
