Patrons

We are honoured to have John Jones (Oysterband) and Steve Knightley (Show of Hands) as our festival patrons.

Steve Knightley looks forward to 2025

“As co-patron of the festival, it’s always a pleasure to welcome you—whether you’re here for the first time or returning as part of the festival family. Although I won’t be performing this year, I’ll be here all weekend, soaking up the atmosphere, catching up with friends, and being reminded —once again—of just how special this festival really is.

“Shrewsbury has a rare balance: it honours tradition while championing fresh voices, celebrates global folk music while staying rooted in its community. This year’s programme is full of the variety and depth that make the festival such a highlight in the calendar.

“I’m especially looking forward to seeing Oysterband, my fellow co-patrons and long-standing legends of folk with fire; Sam Kelly, whose voice and presence are a joy to witness; my good mates Skerryvore, guaranteed to lift the roof; and Mad Dog Mcrea, always wild, witty and wonderfully unpredictable.

“And of course, there’s so much more—from world music to ceilidhs, emerging acts to familiar favourites—each with something to say and a song worth hearing.

“Wherever you wander on site—into a marquee, a session or the bar—I hope you find something that moves you, surprises you or makes you feel at home. That’s the magic of Shrewsbury.

“See you out there.

Steve.

“P.S If you should find me lost and confused in the Berwick bar, please point me in the direction of my van!”
